She discussed the other businesses which display MVAG artwork and urged all to attend the "Art Walk" held downtown on the first Friday of each month. The issue of the sale of artworks by the individual artist or the business in which it is displayed was also discussed. Carol reviewed demonstration plans for future meetings: Regina will present legal matters in October and Jill Angela Roberts will show methods of framing and matting in November. Of course, the annual Christmas party will be held in December. Discussion: In the place of workshops for the coming year, the idea was floated to have members volunteer to instruct a one day workshop in their area of expertise with participation free to guild members. Geri Bates could do glazing in oils, Sharon Marolf volunteered to do calligraphy, Roxanne and Carol volunteered to present a stamping and recycling greeting cards. We would use the Cimarron Creek clubhouse, date and time to be announced. Carol said you should start pressing flowers, and Hospice had a supply of stamping materials for sale. Lois Latimer reported the "Crafty Lady" store is closing and markdowns are offered. Also, a new art supply store is open in the old Art Depot store in Grand Junction. Elaine brought up the need for new artwork on the MVAG website and methods of taking photos of one’s artwork. She also reviewed the Display and Consignment contracts. Regarding the sale of the remaining Chico Bags, Lael said she would contact the Around the Corner Gallery to see if the owners would be willing to sell them there. A motion was made by Carol to price them $5 for one or 3 for $10. Seconded by Geri, approval was unanimous. It was agreed a "Miniature Art Show & Sale will be held in November, time and place to be announced. Regarding grant writing for a new trailer and new standards, Levi made a motion to pursue this. Seconded by Carol, approved unanimously. Elaine, assisted by Lael, will investigate grant opportunities. After the break, Twyla gave a verbal demonstration on "Smoke Art" and passed around examples of her work. The weather was uncooperative for the planned demonstration. Respectfully submitted, Marilyn Hunter, Secretary From Pat Brown, Show Chair: "It was a great Summer Show thanks to so many of the guild members. I'd like to give a big thanks to my committee (Linda Nadel, Celie Matteson, Loretta Casler, Barb Swanson, Marty Simmons, Sharon Marolf, Toni Woodrum and Roxanne Morris) for all their help and support organizing the Summer Show in just 4 short months. Thanks also to Lois Latimer for all her hard work for the reception. It was a wonderful event and well attended with lots of delicious refreshments. So many members helped with set-up, sitting the show, putting up & taking down the standards, hanging the artwork, refreshments, etc. You all stepped up and volunteered, and I really appreciate it. Bob and I also thank you for the gift certificate to Camelot Gardens. It was the perfect gift since both of us love to garden. I think of the Guild every time I admire our new maple tree. Maybe it will turn up in a painting someday. We'll start working on next year's show soon, so we'll have another great event to look forward to. " Pat Brown Good news from Carol Rogers regarding her grandson; he is home from the hospital, and she’s out visiting him, spoiling him rotten! Good News indeed! Election News: We’re approaching that time of year when candidates get elected to new jobs. No, not the national election, or state election, or even local election. I’m talking about new officers. We change officers in January, and since the December meeting is a party, this business MUST be finished in November. Already some people have stepped forward: Regina McMullen volunteered to be secretary, Sharon Marolf will be Historian, and Pat Brown continues as Show Chair. WE STILL NEED Treasurer, Fund-raiser, President, Vice President, Publicity, Art in Motion, Hospitality, Workshop , Web Page Wrangler, and Newsletter slots filled. Without officers the future of the guild is dubious. Of course, any current officers who wish to continue their job will probably not face any opposition. Thanks to Marilyn Hunter who contacted the Montrose Daily Press re correction of MVAG info on the "Clubs and Organizations" page and also our meeting time and place be published every week beneath the "Ongoing Events" under the calendar they publish weekly .From Jim Norfleet of the Woodworkers Guild 249-7879 Rocking Horse (head only) - 16 total pieces , Doll Rocking Chair - 10 total pieces , Bean Bag Toss - 12 total pieces, Child's Chair - 14 total pieces. It's my understanding, all but 2 of the rocking horse heads were distributed among a few of your members last Tuesday. The rocking horse heads and the stick horse heads should have the highest priority because the horses must still be assembled and a clear finish applied once the Visual Art Guild has finished the painting. The other toys (like the cradles) need no additional assembly once the painting by the Visual Arts Guild was completed. It's also my understanding that a larger group of Visual Arts Guild members plan to meet the entire day specifically for painting the various Toys for Tots projects at the Pavilion on November 4th and 18th. I am asking (by copy of this email) the above four Woodworkers Guild team leaders to make note of these dates and help coordinate getting the pieces to the Art Guild for painting. I assume you will be the primary Visual Arts Guild contact person to coordinate with for delivery and pick-up of the various toys. In addition, I understand that some Visual Arts Guild members may be utilizing their regular Tuesday morning sessions to paint on projects as well. As various toys are ready, they can be dropped off in the morning and finished toys picked up on the day of your painting sessions as we did with the cradles last year. Thanks for your assistance. On behalf of the Woodworkers Guild, please thank the Visual Arts Guild members for again participating in this very special project. Call me if you have any questions.Remember there are art classes of various media at the Around the Corner Art Gallery. They can be reached at 249-4243, located at 447 East Main, Montrose
