Artist's Statement: When Kathy
was twelve she started drawing and painting and she's never stopped since then. She is mostly self-taught,
but has enhanced her own experience with books, videos and workshops. In her early days she challenged
herself by painting just about anything she could find: windows, backdrops
for plays, clothing and pet and human portraits. And she also tried many media: watercolor, chalk, pen and ink,
oil pastels, pencil and even poster paint. But over the years she realized that oil paint allows her to achieve
the artistic vision she desires and that is now her primary medium. And her subject matter has evolved along with that.
Kathy is a realist in her approach, and she loves texture in nature, as well as the textures in old buildings.
So her choice to paint mostly mountain scenes and scenes with old rustic buildings is quite understandable.
