Minutes: MVAG Executive
Committee, January 23, 2012
Meeting called to order by president Lael Van Riper.
Discussion: Participation by the
MVAG in the Montrose County Fair in July, 2012 with the Montrose Photography organization. A member of the Montrose County
Fair Board, J. W. will speak at the general meeting.
Discussion: Possible participation (fundraiser) in the Pro Bicycle
Tour coming to Montrose at the end of August.
Presentation by Geri Bates regarding fundraising letter to be sent to businesses
in Montrose. Letters should be in the mail in two weeks, emphasis on follow-up by Guild members.
Motion: Regina McMullan,
to get the letters in the mail as quickly as possible with as many Guild members as possible participating in the letter preparation
during the next 2 paint days. Second: Roxanne
Morris. Unanimously passed.
Discussion: MVAG Art Show: Special theme?
Begin today to determine categories, skill levels, separation of mediums, etc., with Guild members at the general meeting.
Discussion: Issues regarding computer online registration presented by Regina McMullan. Cost of David Merryman's proposal,
$300. Executive Committee agreed to meet with Merryman at 11:00 am before the
next meeting on February 27th.
Presentation
by Nancy Shorter regarding scholarship to a MHS art student in the amount of $200.
Minutes: MVAG General Meeting, January
23, 2012
Meeting called to order by president Lael Van Riper.
J. W. of the Montrose County Fair Board gave presentation
regarding MVAG's participation in the Montrose County Fair. The Fair will begin around July 20th, and MVAG members'
art work and the Montrose
Photography organization's work would be featured in a well-lighted 40' x 48' space
as a centerpiece in the main hall (at Friendship Hall). The Fair will last for 9 days. As discussed in the executive committee,
Lael suggested MVAG members commit to sit this show from 10 am to 6 pm for one day which will be determined later.
Motion:
Regina McMullan made a motion that MVAG agree to Lael's suggestion and also sponsor ribbon ($3.00) for merit art work
by a student. Second: Geri Bates. Unanimous vote in support of the motion.
Motion: An amendment by Carol Rogers to the
above motion to donate to the fair show the amount of $25, bringing the total amount invested to $28.00 and the ribbon award
prepared in colors purple and gold. Second: Nancy Shorter. Unanimous.
Treasurer's Report: Debra Bradley reminded
members to pay yearly dues, and the ending balance in checking account is $7,362.25, copy of report complete with income and
expenditures. Motion made by Carol Rogers to approve Treasurer's report. Second: Judy Kuntz. Unanimous.
Committee
Reports:
Fund Raising: Geri Bates passed around a list of Montrose businesses (patrons) for MVAG members to choose the
businesses they would personally visit as a follow up to the initial letter and to collect the donation for the fall show.
Art in Motion: Geri Bates and Benita Martinez report program is proceeding as planned.
Hospitality: Geri Bates circulated
a list for members to sign up to provide refreshments for future 2012 meetings.
Show: Roxanne Morris asked members to
consider and decide how they wish to proceed on plans for the 2012 Show.

Roxanne: Decisions should be made at February meeting.
Art Scholarship: Nancy asked for input as to requirements for
the $200 Art Scholarship.
Student submits personal photo with entry of art work?
Give notice of 6 weeks to students
who wish to enter art work?
When and where will award be made?
Pat Brown reminded members of an upcoming vintage
valentines workshop at Around the Corner Art
Gallery. Also a Carol Rasmussen class on alcohol/inks on February 4th and
a watercolor pouring class
with Roxanne Morris February 15th and 22nd 1pm to 3pm.
Lael Van Riper reported on a bill
passed last year by the State Legislature setting aside money for two grants to create Creative Art Districts. The Montrose
Downtown Development District, headed up by Bob Brown, is partnering with PAX to apply. Lael urged all Guild members to offer
our aid in this endeavor not only to promote the arts, but also use the arts to build job opportunities.
Current decals
for use by patrons: Debra Bradley asked about reprint for this year. Motion: Celie Matteson, to reprint with current year
established on decal. Second: Bobbie Kerns. Unanimous.
Members were urged to think about a logo idea for discussion at
next meeting.
After the refreshment break, Fran Leblanc introduced Barbara Churchley, who gave an oil painting demonstration
which was enthusiastically watched by the MVAG members.
