MISSION STATEMENT

The MVAG is dedicated to promoting public awareness of the visual arts and artists and their significant creative contributions. The Guild will strive to educate and inspire artists and the interested public through programs, workshops, exhibitions and good fellowship, and pledges itself to encourage high standards of excellence in two and three-dimensional original works in all media.

Site designed and maintained by 4 Corners Adventure.

Montrose Visual Arts Guild

The Montrose Visual Arts Guild is a 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to encouraging and promoting visual arts and artists. For over 30 years it has supported regional artists providing art instruction and working to promote public appreciation for visual art through exhibitions and art displays throughout Montrose. The Guild sponsors an annual, nonjuried art show for artists of all skill levels, and members’ art is displayed in local businesses on a rotating basis through the Art in Motion program.

Monthly meetings, open to the public, feature demonstrations by professional artists in all mediums. Masterpiece Mondays are informal weekly meetings for members’ painting and fellowship and for monthly art video presentations. Art DVDs are available to members through the Guild library.

Transportation of members’ artwork to regional shows is facilitated through the Guild’s art transportation project, and plein air outings, workshops, and retreats provide further opportunities for art instruction and fellowship. Even fundraising is fun when done through the Guild’s Wine and Cheese Party.

For years, Guild members have painted wooden toys from the Woodworkers Guild donations to Toys for Tots Program, and supported the area youth and students through participation in Art Partners, Montrose Youth Appreciation Day and an art scholarship program.

The following community businesses support the Guild's Art in Motion program through the display of Guild members' art on a rotating basis:

Bank of the West

US Bank

Bank of Colorado

MMH Acute Care Rehab

Colorado West Ophthalmology

Guild Patrons and Donors of the Arts

decalThe Guild is extremely grateful for the aid of these area businesses and we encourage our members to support them. It would be impossible for the Guild to fulfill its mission in the community without the assistance of the funds and donations-in-kind that these businesses provide.

If you are a supporter of the visual arts in Montrose and would like to become a Guild Patron, please contact Elaine Johnson at 252-8135. Patrons have recognition on our website and in our monthly newsletter, as well as receiving a Guild decal to display in their place of business. Their names are on the ribbons awarded at our annual art show. They are invited to attend the Patron's Reception the evening before the show opens and can purchase artworks that evening with a 10% discount.
